The Scholarships for Excellence are an excellent opportunity for students studying at higher education institutions in England* to spend from a semester up to a year studying in Hong Kong as part of their degrees.
The Scholarships for Excellence are offered by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and are worth up to £3,000, depending on how long the recipients stay in Hong Kong.
By going to Hong Kong, students can experience the vibrant East-West lifestyle of the former British territory and now Special Administrative Region of China, and learn about a region of vital economic and cultural importance to the UK.
They are the outcome of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the England and Hong Kong governments in 2006 to promote education links of mutual benefit between the UK and Hong Kong. The UK Government believes it is important that students have the chance to experience other cultures during their studies while the Hong Kong Government is seeking to increase cultural exchange and the number of international students on its campuses for the benefit of both Hong Kong students and those from overseas.
Historical links between the UK and Hong Kong, and the strength of Hong Kong universities, make Hong Kong an excellent option for UK students. You can pursue your own subjects, taught in English, while exploring a new culture and friendships. Credits earned in Hong Kong will be transferable to your UK degree.
In 2014-2015 there are 18 scholarships for students in England to spend a semester or full year at a university in Hong Kong. Each scholarship is worth up to £3,000.
